International Summer School - "Religion and Democracy" PDF Print E-mail

Fondazione Italianieuropei organizes the 1st International Summer School of Philosophy and Politics on "Religion and Democracy". World famous scholars will take part to the School, that is addressed to a selected audience of academics and researchers. The Summer School will be held in Marina di Camerota (SA), from 23rd to 25th May 2008.

“Philosophy is its time apprehended in thoughts” said Hegel. Keeping this in mind, Fondazione Italianieuropei organizes three days of study on “democracy and religion”, which aim at discussing problematically their respective practices. Today there is doubtlessly a return to religion, which must be considered. However, the philosophic exercise does not consist in the mere description, rather it implies the deconstruction of the cultural phenomena, the investigation of their premises, the redefinition of their extent. From this point of view, democracy and religion are not pre-determined spheres and dimensions, but they can be questioned through comparison and, maybe, confrontation. Everywhere signs of the need to redefine their mutual spheres are emerging. Boundaries that once seemed to be strictly marked, are no longer such, or they are less and less definable. For this reason, critical reflections shall never end, and philosophy shall give its own contribution to it.
